Doula In Your Pocket
Text-based postpartum and feeding support from a doula and lactation counsellor.
Imagine having a doula in your pocket, who will answer your questions as they pop into your head, no booking, no scheduling, no planning; support is literally in your hand.
If you feel like you're constantly looking for answers to an endless list of questions; scrolling, group chats, Facebook Mom Groups, ChatGPT; this was made for you.

No question is too small.
Here's what other moms have been asking.

Still pregnant and in planning mode?
Maybe you're feeling like...
🍃You’ve spent months planning the birth and realized you haven’t planned much for after.
🍃The unknowns of newborn life are making you anxious.
🍃You don’t have family close by, or the family you have isn’t the support you need.
🍃You want to know who to call when you have questions.
🍃Your partner is wonderful and also has no idea what’s coming.
🍃Last time was hard, and you want this time to feel different
If any of this sounds like you, Doula in Your Pocket means you’ll have support lined up before you need it so you're not scrambling for answers when you need them most.

As your due date looms closer, it can feel like everyone is asking if you're ready yet.
Let me tell you a little secret. None of us are ever fully ready — we prepare the nursery, we prep the meals, we do the breastfeeding course, we go to counselling but when the time comes to head home from the hospital, all of us are met with a nagging feeling in our gut: "this is real now, do I really know how to do this?"
This offering is here for moms who want, someone they can text, without judgement, who has expert answers to their questions.
Motherhood came with way more second-guessing than anyone told you. I made this to give you back time with your newborn. Less scrolling. Real answers. From an actual human (who cares).
If baby is already here
maybe you're feeling like...
🍃You’ve googled the same feeding question four different ways and gotten four different answers.
🍃You’re not sure if what’s happening is normal, but it doesn’t feel urgent enough to call anyone about.
🍃You want support, but the idea of someone in your house right now feels like a lot.
🍃You’re doing all the things and still wondering if you’re doing them right.
🍃Everyone keeps asking how the baby is, and nobody’s asking how you are.
🍃You’ve got questions at 3 a.m. and no one to send them to.
🍃Your mom, your sister-in-law, and the internet all have opinions, and none of them agree.
🍃You feel like you should be enjoying this more than you are.
🍃You’re tired in a way that sleep doesn’t quite fix.
🍃You don’t feel like yourself, and you’re not sure who you’re supposed to be now.
🍃Your partner is trying, but you’re both figuring it out as you go.
🍃You live outside town, or the logistics of getting help in person just aren’t happening.
If you nodded along to even one of these, Doula in Your Pocket was made for you.

It's 3 a.m. The house is asleep, the baby is finally latched (or finally not), and you're scrolling with one thumb in the glow of your phone.
You've already search "how much should a newborn eat" twice tonight. You don't want to wake your partner, and it doesn't feel big enough to call anyone, but it's big enough that you can't stop thinking about it. And somewhere in there is a quieter thought: everyone else seems to be managing, so why does this feel so hard?
Doula in Your Pocket is for the questions that show up in the middle of the night and are still there in the morning. Is this cluster feeding, or is something wrong? Is it okay to give a bottle? Why does the baby only sleep on me? When will I feel like myself again? Send them to me as they come, and you'll get real answers from someone who's sat with nearly 200 families in exactly this spot, and who will never make you feel silly for asking.
You don't have to wait until you're drowning to ask for help. You can ask now.

Are you ready to:
✨Put down the mental load of trying to figure it all out on your own
✨Second-guess yourself a little less (we can’t make it disappear, but we can turn the volume down)
✨Ask the “silly” question, the 3 a.m. question, and the same question twice, all without apologizing first
✨Feel what it’s like to ask for help guilt-free (it’s so freeing it might feel a little illegal, but I promise it’s not)
✨Know whether what’s happening with your body, your baby, or your feeding is normal, instead of guessing
✨Swap the endless Googling for real answers from someone who knows you and your baby
✨Trust your instincts again, with someone experienced backing you up
✨Feel cared for as a mother, not just as the person keeping the baby alive
Meet Christina & Mike

Christina and her husband Mike reached out to me when she was pregnant. Both are researchers, love learning, and were understandably nervous in a whole bunch of ways about having their first baby. They understood there was no amount of studying that could have them fully ready for life in the fourth trimester. Answers to questions as they continued to pop up was something they needed.
I worked with them prenatally to prepare for the fourth trimester, and spent dedicated time getting them ready for breastfeeding. When I think back on our time together, the messaging moments between our visits were some of my favorites; where I could answer questions, validate the hard and cheer them on as they faced things they were really anxious about with confidence.
My text thread with Christina is one of the many pushes along my journey that led me to creating this offering for you. Because it mattered, and it made a difference.
And I would love to do the same for you.

My Story

Hi, I’m Tess. I’m a postpartum doula and lactation counsellor in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada and I’ve spent the last seven years supporting nearly 200 families through the fourth trimester, including plenty of twins.
I’m also a mom to two girls, now ages 6 and 2, and to a baby I lost in between. Each of those experiences taught me how much it matters to have someone in your corner who listens without judgement. I created Doula in Your Pocket so you can text or voice message me with the questions or worries from far away, or in the middle of the night. I’m glad you’re here.
Reddit can tell you what worked for a stranger. I can tell you what’s going on with you, your body, and your baby.

How it Works

Before Baby Arrives
Sign up during pregnancy and your 3 months begin, so you have support lined up before you need it.

Getting started
After you sign up, you’ll get access to the portal right away.

During your month(s) of support
Message me whenever something comes up. No question is too small, too strange, or too late at night. (I'll answer between 9am and 4:30pm Monday- Thursday, and on Sunday afternoons--- that part is my job to keep track of, not yours.

After your 3 months
Your access ends on your plan’s end date. If you’d like more time, you can continue month-to-month at $159, up to 3 more months.
Doula in Your Pocket is support, education, and reassurance, not medical care. If something feels wrong with you or your baby, call your care provider, 811, or 911 in an emergency, and then you're welcome to tell me about it.
FAQ
When does my support start?
If you sign up after baby’s arrived, your support starts right away. If you sign up during pregnancy, it starts when you want (typically on your due date), so none of your time is used up before you need it.
What hours do you reply?
I reply Monday- Thursday, between 9 a.m and 4:30 p.m, and Sunday afternoons. Newfoundland time, within 24 hours. Send your questions whenever they come up, even at 3 a.m. I’ll see them first thing.
Do I need to live in St. John’s?
No. Doula in Your Pocket is completely virtual, so you can join from anywhere in Canada.
Is this covered by insurance?
My services are covered by most insurance providers under naturopathic care. Doula in Your Pocket includes one on one consults that may be covered by your provider.
What if I need more help?
I also offer virtual lactation counselling for those outside the St. John's area and in-home lactation visits and in person postpartum doula support in the St. John’s area.
Does this replace my doctor or midwife?
No. Doula in Your Pocket is support, education, and reassurance. It works alongside your medical care, not in place of it.
Can I gift this to a friend?
Yes, absolutely.
Can I list this on my baby registry?
Yep!
Doula in Your Pocket provides support and education and is not a substitute for medical care. If you have concerns about your health or your baby’s, contact your care provider or call 811. In an emergency, call 911.
